Medeama became the third Ghanaian side to progress in the continental club competitions this weekend after beating Panthers FC 2-0 at the Essipong Stadium on Sunday.

The MTN FA Cup lords beat a nine-man Panthers side to progress to the next stage of the CAF Confederations Cup with goals from Kwame Boahene and substitute Godbless Asamoah.

The results ensure Medeama progressed on a 4-1 aggregate after winning the first leg 2-1 a week ago.

Medeama enjoyed much of the possession against a physical Panthers side that ended the game with nine men.

Boahene put the host ahead with a thunderbolt at the top corner in 20 minutes to set the stadium agog after he was picked up by Hans Kwofie's measured pass in the box.

Boahene inched close to doubling the advantage moments on when he let fly a shot over the crossbar after Achile Pensy spilled an effort from Kwofie.

In-between play, the visitors tested Medeama's composure with Bernard Don-Bortey and Jonathan Yeison creating several problems for their hosts.

The homers responded and Victor Ayirey missed from 20 yards after flying his effort just wide before Michael Helegbe set apart Kwofie's who only with the goalkeeper at his mercy also missed narrowly.

With a consolidation goal beckoning at every Medeama move, the host's effort were rewarded with a penalty after Boahene was fouled by goalkeeper Pensy.

Kabiru Moro stepped forward to effect the kick only to shot straight against Pensy's body to leave the scores unchanged.

Coach Roberto Paullete replaced Moro with Godbless Asamoah while Theophilus Anoobah came on for Michael Helegbe from recess. The changes paid off as Asamoah doubled the advantage.

Medeama will now meet Moroccan side MAS at the next stage of the competition.
