Medeama's Gordon wins FA Cup best player

Medeama’s Joseph Gordon has been adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2012/2013 edition of the MTN FA Cup.

Gordon, who played an active role in his side's triumph in the knockout competition, scooped the topmost prize at the awards gala held on Saturday at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.

The talented midfielder beat favorites Mahatma Otoo, formerly of Hearts of Oak, Michael Helegbe of Asante Kotoko, and outsider Moro Abubakar of Hearts of Oak to the award.

The Tarkwa-based side were the biggest winners at the ceremony to reward personalities for their successes in the competition.

The champions also picked prizes in best coach category - Evans Adotey and Goal of the tournament - Theophilus Anobaah.

Former Asante Kotoko central defender Rashid Sumaila, now with South African side Mamelodi Sundowns pipped his ex-teammate Kwabena Adusei, Medeama’s Godfred Rockson and Emmanuel Ofori of Amidaus Professionals to the best defender of the tournament.

Frederick Acheampong of Rainbow FC, a second-tier side based in Kumasi was adjudged discovery of the tournament beating Mighty Jets’ Emmanuel Laryea, Ben Arthur of Amidaus Professionals and Medeama’s Gordon.

Joseph Lamptey beat the likes of Joe Atikese, Samuel Gyasi and Ottis Oppong to the best referee prize whilst Ibrahim Adams went home with assistant referee of the tournament.
