Mensah Sabah wins UG Inter halls football

David Ansong became an established hero when he got the lone goal for Mensah Sabah Hall in injury time to beat hard working goal keeper Jafaro of Akuafo Hall to become the 2015 University of Ghana football champions.

In the game to determine who is the best soccer hall on campus, it was the Farmers of Akuafo who dictated the pace in the first half with their inter positional changes and creative display.

But the efforts of dynamic midfielder Emmanuel Oppong supported by Seth Peprah,David Lomotey, Bright Amponsah,Emmanuel As ante and Mike ANOVA could not yield the much needed result.

The Vikings of Sabah Hall made some important substitution by bring on the half fit striker Ansong who stole the show and made the difference.

His strike at the 90th minute ended the ding dong battle which attracted a sizable crowd including Dr. Owusu Ansah, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu and other lecturers and students.

Skipper Andoh of the Vikings who is in his fourth year proved his experience despite collecting a red card for his hard tackles.

He and his team including Emmanuel Nartey, Ben Teiku, Sam Frimpong, Isaac Kusi. Felix Adjei and others really played their hearts out and it was good they carried the day.

Dr. Bella Bitugu. Director of sports at the University of Ghana who presented the trophy to And oh advised the students to do sports as it is not a waste of time, but they can learn many things in life through sports.

He said very soon the sports infrastructure in the school would be improved.

He hinted that plans are in advanced stages to get sponsors to build and brand the sports facilities.

According to him, the university must acquire what ever makes it a first class higher institution of learning.

Madam Helena Williams of the Sports Directorate also commended the players for their wonderful display and the media for promoting university sports.

She informed that a female game would be played next season
