Mercy Darkoah scored twice and directed the offense to lead the Bellevue University team past Oklahoma Wesleyan University 3-1 in a Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference game.
Bellevue’s (11-1-0, 3-0-0 MCAC) win in the battle of MCAC unbeatens means they are all alone atop the conference and control their own fate moving forward. The loss drops Oklahoma Wesleyan to 7-8-0 on the year and 3-1-0 in MCAC competition.
The Eagles gained an early 1-0 advantage on Kaka Delahaye’s goal at 11:01 off an assist from Aracelly Ortega.
The Bruins tied the game in the 28th minute after a shot by Madison Lambert from 16 yards out snuck under the cross bar. Madison Stumpf was credited with the assist.
Darkoah scored the game’s final two goals to give BU the 3-1 victory. The game-winner came at 51:52 on a rebound off of Betsy Fischenich.
Darkoah’s insurance goal came 10 minutes later, scoring on a penalty kick.
The Bruins held a commanding 27-5 advantage in shots and a 10-4 edge in shots on goal.
Laurence Rodier collected the win, improving to 5-0 on the season, recording three saves in 90 minutes in goal.
The Bruins will return to the pitch on Wednesday with a match at York College.
The in-form Ghanaian midfielder has now scored 14 goals so far this season.
