Accra, Oct. 3, GNA - Struggling Tudu Mighty Jets held on tight to post a bitter pill down the throat of current Premier League leaders, Kessben FC with a 2-1 win in their encounter at El-Wak stadium, Accra on Sunday.
The victory which turned out to be their first in five games was made sweater especially because the homers played more than an hour of the game with a weak numerical strength after their experienced defender, Isaac Amadu Bodoug was sent off for a 'horrific' challenge on Kessben's Lanquaye Anum in the first half.
Mighty Jets' who needed a win to give their maiden elite division experience a boast, looked the better side but lacked a measure of sense of urgency upfront.
Aarom Amoah's opener for the homers in 31 minute was however very much anticipated after the player who hit a brace had caused the visitor's rear many troubles.
Amoah sneaked through from the middle and got to the end of a fine build-up to hit the back of the net in a manner that left Kessben's goalkeeper Mozart Adjetey agitated. The goal thus peeped up Jet's confidence but they were unlucky to have consolidated their lead eight minutes later when Amoah's well-taken shot from a dead ball situation was tipped to safety by keeper Adjetey. The numerical advantage of Kessben quickly came telling after that scare and the visitor's inched closer to an equalizer that finally arrived their way with five minutes to head for recess through Richard Mpong.
Mpong who was caught in-between two Jet's defenders dealt well with a loose marking at the rear, before controlling the ball beautifully on his chest and planting the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Yakubu Banda to silence the dotted crowd at the arena.
Four minutes on, Jets were lucky to have survived a Kessben onslaught but Issah Salihu could only agonizingly watch his effort roll across the face of the victor's post with goalkeeper Banda compromised. Both teams returned from recess with Jets rather the rejuvenated side and defied their numerical disadvantage for Amoah to hit the back of the net for his brace in five minutes, which became a no turning back for the debutants.
