Minister of Education Donates to Clubs

The Minister of Education, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has presented a number of sporting equipment to six third division football clubs in the Techiman North Constituency in the Techiman District.

Each of the beneficiary football clubs in the six communities received a set of jerseys and a football, all valued at 7.2 million cedis being a personal contribution of the Minister towards the promotion of sports in the constituency.

Receiving the items on behalf of the clubs, Messrs Nana Kwabena Dwomor, Chairman of the Techiman North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Sulemana Oduro, Second Vice-Chairman of the Party thanked the Minister for the donation, which they believed would help promote sports in the area.

Messrs Dwomor and Oduro expressed the hope that the items would be judiciously used for the promotion of sporting activities in the constituency.

They urged the youth to get themselves involved in sporting activities and to encourage other up and-coming youths to spend their time profitably.

Later speaking to GNA Sports Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi said, the presentation was meant to contribute towards unearthing hidden talents in football in the area as well as keeping the youth engaged in sports in order to keep them away from negative activities.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi pledged to organize a grand gala competition among the six beneficiary clubs. They are Mesidan Great Parma , Tanoboase Soccer Angles, Krobo Great Mile-9 Football Club, Buoyem Akomafour Dwamena F.C., Akrofrom Mighty Jets and Asueyi Giants.

In another development, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi presented a set of jerseys worth 1.2 million cedis to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Soccer Team at Techiman.

During the presentation, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi urged GNAT Ladies in the District to encourage their female pupils and students to get involved in soccer so that the district and the country would get the best materials for the national female soccer team.

Mr George Amanoo-Kyeremeh, Techiman District Director of Education, thanked the Minister for the kind donation and said the football team of GNAT would take upon itself the task of inspiring both male and female teachers, pupils and students to take up the challenge of encouraging sporting activities within the GES in the District.
