Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is okay and will be returning to Real Madrid on Saturday after a week’s treatment by Chelsea medical team following an allergic reaction to some drugs which has kept him out of action since 11th November.

After speaking to José Mourinho and gaining permission from the club, Essien believed the best way to get back to fitness was under the guidance of the doctors and physiotherapists (who have worked with the Ghanaian for seven seasons) at the London club so moved to London last Thursday for treatment.

Madrid assistant coach Aitor Karanka later revealed at a press conference that; "Essien is not injured but is suffering from an allergic reaction to a drug."

The explanation did not go done well for the press who felt there was more to it than an allergy to force the Ghanaian return to Chelsea for treatment – a recurrent injury?

The 29-year-old since his return to the treatment table for over a week now, footy-Ghana.com understands, was able to train with the Chelsea side at Cobham headquarters on Friday and has been given the go ahead to return to Madrid to continue his loan spell.

The new development, Essien’s ‘father’, Mourinho has capitalized on to accuse the media of lying about Essien instead of believing what was said by his assistant Karanka.

"We are not liars. You (media) say that I'm going to PSG & the next day the owner comes out and denies it. I will not say that you are liars."

"We know that Essien had some sort of allergy and Chelsea was interested in how he was doing and you (media) say that is a lie. His club is Chelsea and has the right to check the status of their player and he has been treated for the pain he had by his club.”

Mourinho went on to confirm Essien is due to return to Spain on Saturday and will join his Madrid teammates in Monday’s training.

“He'll return to Madrid tomorrow (Saturday) and will train with the group as normal on Monday,” he revealed.

Essien joined Madrid on a season-long loan three months ago after manager Roberto Di Matteo (now sacked) ruled him out of Chelsea’s plans for the season. He has featured in six games for Madrid and scored one.
