Sunyani (B/A) March 23, GNA - Goaso Multi-Choice Football Club (F/C) beat their local arch rivals, Goaso Nananom F/C 1-0 in one of the two final matches of this year's Brong-Ahafo Second Division Middle League match played at the Coronation Park, Sunyani, on Sunday.
Petit Joseph Kwarteng got the winner for his side with a perfect goal in the 35th minute of the first half to bring joy to followers of the club.
He was the toast of the fans as he was carried shoulder high soon after Referee, Warrant Officer Class One, James Nkrumah blew the whistle for the end of the proceedings.
The match itself was a do-and-die affair as both sides from the commencement of the game uncompromisingly attacked in bursts to get the winning goal.
Multi-Choice in the 12th minute came close to finding the opener but a long-range shot grazed the bar and went to safety to the relief of Nananom.
Multi-Choice had another opportunity in the 17th minute but good defensive work by the defenders of Nananom weathered the storm. Nananom also had their moments of glory but failed to capitalize on them until in the 35th minute when "Petit" Kwarteng shot virtually into an empty net by displacing the goalie to the wrong side.
In another final match, Dormaa Aduana Stars also won 1-0 over Bechem United.
The match was characterized by rough-play and referee Ampaabeng Kyeremeh had to stamp his authority on the game when he showed Bechem United's Ben Owusu the red card for challenging his decision. Coach Samuel Enninful of Bechem F/C who together with some of his supporters charged on the referee for showing the red card to their player was later rushed to the hospital following injuries he sustained in the course of the police intervention to protect the referee.
In all, eight teams participated in the Regional competition that had to be delayed following a protest by Aduana Stars against Nsoatreman F/C in one of the elimination series when the competition was in its third day.
That match ended abruptly when the Nsoatreman boys refused to honour a 75th minute penalty awarded against them.
Tuobodom Red Lions, Atebubu AFA F/C and Berekum Semereka F/C are the other teams that emerged champions in the zonal competitions and took part in the Regional Middle league.
