Muntari Impressess Happy Harry

Sulley Muntari showed the Premiership exactly what he is capable of during Portsmouth’s gritty 1-0 victory over Fulham in the Asia Cup. Manager Harry Redknapp was delighted with the work-rate of his new signing in unbearable heat.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in a game that was surprisingly pacy considering the acrid heat in which it was played.

After gaining a first half lead care of Benjani, Portsmouth were on the ropes for most of the second half, and Muntari chipped in with an excellent battling display helping his team to a clean sheet.

His performance didn’t go unnoticed by Redknapp, who was full of praise for the 22-year-old.

“He’s got everything you need to play in the Premier League. He’s strong and aggressive,” the manager told Portsmouth’s official website.

“He did something against Fulham you don’t see too often. He lost the ball but he didn’t stand around.

“He ran 25 yards, closed their full-back down, flew into a tackle and put the ball out.

“Too often you see players make a mistake and stand there feeling sorry for themselves but he doesn’t, he gets after the ball,” Redknapp added.

“I think he’s going to be a massive favourite with Pompey fans, they’re going to love him.”

Portsmouth play Liverpool in the final of the Asia Cup on Friday, after the Reds triumphed over South China 3-1 earlier this afternoon.
