Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan popularly called the Baby Jet has described the new colourful jersey of the national team as a reflection of pride, passion and confidence.
The Black Stars officially outdoored the jersey in their 1-0 loss to Montenegro on Wednesday in Podgorica in an international friendly match.
The new kits feature PUMA’s new football apparel innovation PWR ACTV, a first-to-market use of both athletic taping and compression within the apparel.
PUMA player and Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan said: “The team has been waiting a long time since the 2010 World Cup in which we reached the quarter-finals. Being so close to becoming the first African team to reach the semi-final was a great triumph but painful at the same time, and are really motivated to come back and achieve an even better result.
“The new kit design from PUMA reflects the pride and passion of our nation and we’ll be leaving for Brasil with full confidence that we can make our country proud.”
The ACTV tape is strategically placed within the garment to provide micro-massages on the skin, working with the human body to help maximise performance and provide players with a faster, more effective energy supply to the active muscles.
This combined with the underarm mesh inserts for increased breathability and freedom of movement, will help Ghana have a competitive advantage at this year’s World Cup.
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah paraded a strong starting squad made up of goalie Adam Kwarasey in post, defenders David Addy, Dan Opare, Jerry Akaminko, John Boye, Michael Essien (Capt), Majid Warris, Agyeman Badu, Mubarak Wakaso, Jordan Ayew and Chris Atsu.
The late subs included Samuel Inkoom, Kevin Prince Boateng, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan who came on to wear the captain’s band.
Besides the scoreline, Ghana played well and possessed the ball most, however the players must be patient and focused playing under pressure as some referees can be biased or wicked to flash yellow and red cards at the lease infringement.
