Nigeria will not participate in the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup competition in Ghana due to the team’s busy schedule.
The Nigeria football federation technical committee chairman,Barrister Chris Green disclosed to Complete Sports that the federation was forced to take the decision as a result ot the team's busy schedule.
He further said there is no way the technical crew can combine the task of managing the main the Super Eagles team and the second team for the World Cup qualifiers s well as the WAFU Cup.
“The Super Eagles home based team would not be participating in the WAFU Cup tournament,''he begins.
“The Federation did not put in for the competition because of the busy schedule of the national team.
“And again the schedule of the head coach, Stephen Keshi makes it difficult for us to partake in the competition.
The WAFU Cup is aimed at helping teams that will participate in the Africa Nation Championship in South Africa next Januray fine tune strategies ahead of the 16 nation tournament. The draws for the WAFU Cup took place in Accra on Friday. Host Ghana is in group A alongside Benin, Burkina Faso, and debutant Sierra Leone, group B has defending Champions Togo, Niger with debutants Gabon and Senegal.
