Pretoria, June 29, GNA - Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah, says he has no regrets for the action that led to his second yellow card in the competition in the match against the United States of America (USA). Mensah, who will miss the next game as a result of the yellow card, said every action of his was for the good of the team.
"I was fighting for the team and I had to ensure we succeed in the game by qualifying to the next stage of the competition.
"I'm happy with our qualification and I believe my colleagues will take up the rest of the responsibilities by beating Uruguay for us to qualify to the next stage of the competition", Mensah said at a media briefing.
The defender said the team was in great shape and every player was ready to die for the nation. He was confident that success would crown their efforts in the next game against Uruguay on Friday.
Asked about his performance in the competition, the defender said he was happy with the great form he had exhibited so far, and expressed the hope that he would have more playing time to prove his worth. He, however, noted that every step was a learning process and that he was willing to continue from where he had reached. Mensah had his first outing for the Black Stars at the World Cup in the match against Australia in which he partnered Lee Arday in the central defence.
His second and third appearances in the competition, were against Germany and United States of America (USA) respectively, but had to miss the up-coming Uruguay match due to a one match ban after receiving his second yellow card.
