Nyarko back to Chicago Fire training

Former Ghana international Patrick Nyarko has returned to training at his club Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer after a seven-month injury layoff.

The winger sustained an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee while playing against DC United in October 2014 and has been out of action since then.

After a group session on Tuesday, Fire coach Frank Yallop confirmed the 28-year-old Ghanaian will be available for selection within the shortest time.

“Patrick actually joined training on Tuesday. He is getting closer. I think he looked okay. He’s a way off still but at least he joined in and did okay,” Yallop told Chicago Fire website.

“Nyarko has to replace somebody on the roster. Right now in the 18, our guys are doing okay. It’s a long haul back but it’s good to have them back in training and back in the stream of things,” he said.

According to Yallop, Nyarko could be used in the return fixture of the US Open Cup game on June 16 or in the clash with DC United .

Nyarko joined Chicago Fire in 2008 from Virginia Rookies and has appeared 177 times, scoring 16 goals, which led to his induction into the club's hall of fame last year.
