Former Ghanaian international midfielder, Alex Nyarko, has hanged up his boots for the second time. The 34 years old, who played this season in Yverdon Sport FC, in the Swiss championship, threatened to retire in 2001 and then retired in September 2007.

Nyarko first caught people's attention as a member of the 1992 Ghana Olympic team.

He joined Lens in 1998 for $600,000 from Karlsruhe, a surprise at the time given that he was injured for much of the two years he was in Germany. Paris Saint-Germain expressed an interest before English side, Everton moved in for him. A $4.5 million deal was rushed through in the 2000 close season.

He failed to settle as quickly as expected and did not figure in the early part of the 2000-01 Premiership season. He threatened to quit the game in April 2001 after a fan ran onto the pitch in a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal offering to swap places with him.

Nyarko was shipped out on a year-long loan to Paris Saint-Germain with an option to make the deal permanent.

He entually moved to Switzerland after PSG failes to make a permanent move for him.
