Obuasi, April 30, GNA - Over 1,500 boys and girls from 27 Districts in the Ashanti Region are to participate in a week-long Basic Schools U-12 and U-15 Sports Festival that officially opens on Tuesday at Obuasi. Obuasi Municipal, the host of this year's Sports Festival has the aim of translating the "host and win" slogan into reality, with the Schools expected to participate in soccer in the U-12 division and girls' soccer, handball and table tennis in the U-15 division.
Obuasi senior High Technical School (O'SECTECH) has been selected as the games village while the soccer competition would be staged at the O'SECTECH Park, Ofori Stadium and Anglogold Ashanti Schools Parks. Mr Kofi Asante, Obuasi Municipal Basic Schools Organizer in a brief with the GNA Sports at Obuasi said the Festival will be officially opened on Tuesday with the opening soccer game between Obuasi Municipal Assembly and Sekyere East District.
He said enough preparations have been made to ensure a successful festival in the Municipality with the Municipal Chief Executive as the special guest of honour.
Mr Johnny Owusu-Boadi, Municipal Director of Education said that the Municipal team has prepared enough to win the soccer competition and other disciplines.
"We are going to host and win the competition so everybody in the Municipality should pray for the contingents, adding that "I have been watching their training and trial matches and they are doing well". He emphasized that Obuasi is noted for its excellence in Basic Schools' soccer competitions and his tenure of office would revive the winning spirit. 30 April 10
