Reigning Ghana Premier League goal king Augustine Okrah has completed his move to Al Merreikh.
The 21-year-old topped the scorers’ chart of the 2013/14 Ghana Premier League season with 16 goals and bagged the Most Valuable Player award at the season's end.
On Thursday evening, he finalised his switch from Ghanaian side Bechem United by signing a lucrative two-year deal with the Omdurman-based giants who finished second in the Sudanese League the last term.
Negotiations over Okrah’s Merreikh move seemed to have been over-stretched by a knee problem he sustained during a short loan spell at Swedish side BK Hacken, but doubts about his early recovery ahead of the new Sudanese League have been medically cleared.
Supersport.com can confirm that Okrah will therefore spend the initial months of his new contract on loan at Ahli Khartoum who just signed fellow Ghanaian winger Francis Coffie.
The short spell is to help him regain full fitness before re-joining the high-demanding Omdurman side.
Okrah came to the limelight three seasons ago when current Ghana national team assistant coach Maxwell Konadu signed him for League Champions Asante Kotoko from the now defunct Red Bull Academy.
A first season of junior team appearances with few first team cameos saw the nimble-footed attacker loaned out to Liberty Professionals. Okrah managed to recover his confidence in his loan spell with the Accra side but ‘shockingly’ got laid off after returning to Kotoko at the end of his loan spell, especially since the Ghanaian Champions had a change of regime in coaching and administration.
He moved to Bechem United at the beginning of the 2013/14 season and became an instant hit. Okrah’s eye-catching performances coupled with his goal-scoring prowess helped the Ghana League returnees maintain their status in the top flight with a fifth place finish.
