Okwahu United beat Great Olympics

Nkawkaw, (E/R), March 23, GNA - Okwahu United defeated visiting Accra Great

Olympics by a lone goal in their Polytank Division One League match played at the Nkawkaw Park on Sunday. The only goal of the match was scored in the 15th minute by outside left Kofi Owusu when his long range shot beat Olympics keeper Ben Mensah. Okwahu United dominated play and mounted pressure on Olympics at the initial

stages of the game and should have increased the scores but erratic shooting by the

strikers denied tem further goals. Olympics counter-attack with skipper Andy Pomeyi, substitute Kwasi Bonsu, Eric

Adjei and Isaac Bortey, all former Premier League players combining effectively in

search of the needed equalizer and were able to put the ball in the net in the 20th

minute through centre forward Ibrahim Fuseini but his effort was ruled off-side. The home team continued to dominate play with their free flow game during the

second half but wasted two corner kicks in the 48th and 50th minutes as the strikers

failed to utilize the chances. In the 55th minute, Olympics' outside left Isaac Bortey was injured and had to be

carried from the field on a supporter's back for treatment because there were no rpt

no Red Cross or any health official around to attend to the player or put him on a

structure. Olympics made three changes as against two by Okwahu and the changes

benefited Olympics who mounted series of pressure but goalkeeper James Nkansah of

the national Under-17 side and in posts for Okwahu was able to save several of the

shots in the 68th, 75th and 80th minutes. The match degenerated into rough play and the referee had to pull his yellow card

on four occasions to stamp his authority on the game and later gave Okwahu United's

skipper Samuel Twerefour, the marching off orders in the 86th minute for fouling

Olympics substitute Akawa Malik. 23 March 09
