Old Black Stars win Political Tolerance Gala trophy

The Old Black Stars football team on Sunday won the 2012 Political Tolerance Soccer Gala competition when they out played and beat the Political Stars team 2-0 to climax an entertaining football competition.

The gala, which was organized by Pro-Image Communications in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Authority and Airtel communications as well as the various political parties, was to foster peace and unity before, during and after the 2012 general elections.


The veteran players exhibited some of their old skills as they totally dominated proceedings with Emmanuel Quarshie opening the scores in the first half but had to wait to increase their goal tally in the second half through a well taken long range grounder that the Political Stars keeper had no answer to.


Before getting to the finals, Old Stars drew goalless with the MUSICA team and walloped the Media XI 4-0, while the Political Stars team led by Hassan Ayariga of PNC also drew goalless with the Religious Stars team in the opener and went ahead to beat NASFFAG 2-0.

The other results of the day were, Political Stars also beat NASFAAG 2-0 while Media XI were held 1-1 by the MUSICA team to send the Political Stars and Old Black Stars to the finals which was won by the veteran players.


The Old Stars fielded players including Hesse Odamtey, Karimu Zito, Ahmed Rockson, Armah Senegal, Sampson lamptey, Yaw Preko, Ahmed Polo, Malik Jabir, Abukari Damba, Ayittey Dorman, Emmanuel Quarshie, Alhaji Ahmed Bello, Awuley Quaye and Nii Darko Ankra while the Musicians fielded Nana B, Agya Koo (captain), Tic Tac, Castro, King, Tinny, Samini, Nana, Abu Rasta, Kwame B, Ben Brako and the President of MUSICA Obour.


Nana Daasebre Kwabu Ewusi VII, member of the Council of State was joined by Jake Otanka Obetsebi- Lamptey, Chairman of NPP, Sammy Awuku, Abu Sadiq, Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of NDC, Dr Omane Boamah Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Alhaji Ramadan and Bernard Morna of PNC, Dr Paa Kwesi Ndoum of PPP, Dr Henry Lartey, leader of GCPP and the flag bearer of the CPP, Dr Abu Sakara were among a cross section of fans and supporters at the opening and closing stages of the gala.**
