Accra Great Olympics insist they will stay up in the Ghana Premier League ahead of their weekend game against league winners AshantiGold.
Olympics and relegation has become fairly common and they head into the final day of the season second from bottom and one of eight clubs involved in what is expected to be a mighty relegation scrap.
While Olympics’ survival depends on the game, AshantiGold can take it easy given that this is a coronation game for their 4th league title and their first in 19 years.
Olympics coach Yaw Acheampong admits the nature of the game makes it a very difficult affair but he is in no doubt they will win.
“A lot of people have written us off but I don’t see it like that”, Acheampong told TV3 Sports.
“AshGold have already won the league and we need the points so we would do more than they will, We have to psyche our boys well because such matches are very dangerous.”
Acheampong says far from Olympics being poor, the Ghana Premier League has been incredibly tough hence their struggles with relegation.
“I would say that it’s been very interesting especially when the team’s position on the league keeps on changing week after week, and the last five matches have been very tough. I couldn’t believe that before we played Heart of Lions we had played 8 or 9 matches without losing but we still at where we are so that should tell you how tough the league is.”
Acheampong will be relying on the experience of his veterans which include Osei Boateng, Richard Kingson, Dan Quaye and Godwin Attram.
Attram admits it is not entirely in their hands as a team but says they will do their part.
“We can only do our best. For AshantiGold it is a party but for us this will be serious business. We will have to do our best by winning and then think about the mathematics of it up against the rest of the teams.”
