Accra, Oct. 19, GNA - The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of relegation threatened Accra Great Olympics, has decided to redirect its focus in order to avoid the impending calamity of being booted out of the national Premier league.

Olympics are currently placed at the bottom of Zone "B" of the Premier league with only two points out of the seven matches played in the first round of the Premiership and stand the risk of being relegated to what is described as "the wilderness of Ghana soccer", if the chain of poor results continue in the second round of the league.

Mr John Teye, Chairman of the IMC told the GNA Sports in an interview that the Committee has decided to turn a "deaf ear" to the detractions from other factions in the club and to concentrate on the league.

He accused some factions in the club of putting stumbling blocks in their way, hence the club's recent poor performances. Mr Teye said the IMC has realised that part of the Club's woes in the Premiership could be attributed to their concentration on the efforts of supposed detractors which he claimed has affected their performance so far.

He said that, "All attention would be given to the playing body in the form of extra motivation so that the players can perform better in the second round to avoid relegation".

The IMC Chairman denied reports that Amui Quaye, one of the key players of the club has been axed from the club because he does not belong to the Teye faction.

"No player has been sacked, Quaye is my boy and I'm surprised by the reports. He was only affected by some disciplinary measures taken by the coach and he would soon return to action", Mr Teye stated. He however explained that some few players who are not needed by the technical team have been placed on transfer contrary to reports that they have been sacked.

Mr Teye said the IMC will be seeking to reverse the present trend of defeats in the Premiership and stated emphatically that they would do everything to avoid relegation.

The IMC Chairman also debunked reports that producers of Kalypo Fruit Drinks who are sponsors of the club have threatened to pull out of the deal as no form of such communication had reached him.

He said the sponsorship deal is on course and the company's logo would be displayed on the clubs jersey in the league. Mr Teye said though more companies have expressed interest in sponsoring the club, they have to shelve the idea since the league is entering the second round.

He said most of the sponsors would come on board by the beginning of the next football season.

The Olympics' capo however expressed the hope that the club will be able to live up to its "Wonder club" accolade in the second round to pick a respectable place after the zonal league. 19 Oct. 04
