Accra, Nov 29, GNA - The launch of the maiden annual Otumfuo Invitational Cup Soccer Tournament will come off on Friday December 2 at the Kumasi Polytechnic Auditorium.
The competition, according to the organisers, Phoenix Consult, is expected to last for a week and will involve six teams in all, three selected from the just ended GT Premier League and three others from the West African sub region.
A statement signed by Mr Edward Yigah, Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Consult said though the competition was in its maiden year, it had been able to attract international audience, as Strata Sports Marketing, the international partners of the event had confirmed their participation.
It said the sports marketing company would, apart from witnessing the event, scout for some talents for onward transfer to some of the big leagues in Europe.
The release said the organisers intended to use the tournament to build quality and mutually beneficial corporate and media partnerships to cement the internationalisation of Ghanaian brand of football in celebration of Ghana's historic maiden qualification to the 2006 World Cup.
Each team participating in the tournament will receive an appearance fee of 15,000 dollars, whilst the winner will in addition receive 30,000 dollars, with the runner-up taking away 20,000 dollars while the third placed team will receive 15,000 dollars with the fourth team receiving 10,000 dollars. Teams lined up for the contest are Asante Kotoko, King Faisal, Ashantigold and Enyimba of Aba, Nigeria two time African champions, Asec Mimosa, Ivorien soccer giants and former African Clubs Champions and ASFA Yennega of Burkina Faso.
