The appeals committee of the Ghana FA's decision to uphold an earlier punishment by the disciplinary committees has boosted the league aspirations of Berekum Chelsea.
The 2010 domestic league champions saw their fortunes rise from relegation bets to title challengers after the second ruling went their way.
They were dogged points in all their fixtures played since February 4 by the disciplinary committee for owing WAFA transfer percentage of Solomon Asante.
Speaking exclusively to the sports crusader team, Communications director of the Berekum-based team, Isaac Amponsah, echoed his side’s relief at the decision and their title winning aspirations. “We are relieved now and can now think of winning the league title for the second time.
The league is such a close league and we are just 9 points off the top of the league. The verdict will help our players to fight for the ultimate trophy. Our aim is to win the league for the second time in our history,” Isaac explained.
On the quality of players on the domestic scene, Dr. Ike, as he is popularly called, commended the various clubs for building formidable teams across the nations. “All the teams are almost at the same level in terms of technique and performances.
The final decision lies in who has the mental fortitude to go all the way. There is nothing like home fixtures or away matches, any team can be defeated any where,” Ike said.
When asked on the revelation of his side in the ongoing league, Dr. Ike thanked the technical team of his side and called for the support of the Brong Ahafo populace for clubs in the region.
“Our team is as balanced as you can imagine. Almost every player is at par with the other, just the approach makes them different. One player that has surprised me the most is Nicholas Opoku from Cornerstones.
I thought he was going to learn from the senior players on board after gaining promotion this season, but he has succeeded in benching those ahead of him. He has been splendid in the league so far,” the affable speaking communications director said.
The 10 dogged points that were awarded by the appeals committee projected Berekum Chelsea from the bottom of the table to 5th, just 9 points away from the top.
The 2010 league champions will take on Bechem United in the FCPPL, in one of their 6 regional derbies in Brong Ahafo.
