English-born Ghanaian forward Joseph Dodoo struck the solitary goal of the game for Leicester City’s Development Squad as they earned a deserved Barclays U21 Premier League victory over Manchester City at King Power Stadium on Monday evening.
Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey started in defence alongside the prodigious Dodoo as the Foxes dominated proceedings throughout and won their first game since last November.
Amartey, signed from Danish giants FC Copenhagen and yet to make his first team debut, was among Gökhan Inler, Leonardo Ulloa and Liam Moore, who were all first team regulars who started the game.
Leicester mounted the pressure on City and made their performance count when Dodoo side-footed in Gray’s excellent cross to make it 1-0 on 14 minutes.
The 20-year-old attacker, who has impressive first team numbers this season, has remained with the Leicester Development squad since returning from a loan spell at Bury.
Dodoo has 19 Premier League game minutes this term after coming off the bench to play in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last August.
However, he won himself raving reviews after emerging into the League Cup scene with dazzling performances which saw him score goals against Bury and West Ham United.
He has been targeted for a call-up by the English FA while the Ghana FA have expressed faint interest in luring him to commit his international future to Ghana.
