PLB cautions teams about choice of stadiums

Accra, Aug. 4, GNA - The Professional League Board (PLB) has cautioned three top premier clubs who use the Ohene Djan and Baba Yara stadia for their home matches to ensure that their alternative choices meet CAF's standards. The Ministry of Education and Sports has given prior notice to Accra Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals, King Faisal and Asante Kotoko that the two stadia would be closed down on August 15 for renovation works to begin ahead of the CAN 2008.

Reports say Kotoko would be using the Konongo Stadium for their home matches while King Faisal and Hearts are yet to come out with their new venues. But PLB Chairman Mr Wilbeck Abra-Appiah said it would be better for Kotoko and Faisal to start using the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium before they booked their tickets for Africa next year. He said it was likely CAF would not accept Konongo, for instance, for any international game hence it was better for the two Kumasi clubs to adopt Obuasi early enough before the unexpected happened.

Faisal play host to Marsa club of Tunisia at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra on Saturday instead of Kumasi but it is not clear where their home league matches would be honoured when the Accra Sports Stadium also closes down. Hearts and Liberty Professionals would have to choose between the Tema, El-Wak and Dawu stadia as their new home grounds.
