Ghana team doctor, Dr Martin Engmann has given a positive report about the injury condition of John Paintsil following the opening game of the African Cup of Nations.

The defender was carried off on a stretcher after complaining of dizziness at the end of Ghana's 2-1 victory over Guinea at the Ohene Djan Stadium on Sunday.

Paintsil was sent to hospital for checks immediately after the game by Ghana’s medical team to have checks done for head injuries.

And Dr Engmann, a day after the incident, says the fullback is OK, though he remains under close observation and monitoring.

“He is fine and fully conscious. He is rationale. He doesn’t have any neurological deficits. For any post head injury, there is a tendency to have a nerve function break down and that can be compromised.

"But in his case, there’s nothing,” Ghana team doctor, Dr Martin Engmann told www.ghanafa.org.

“The first 24-48 hours period is critical and we have closely observed and monitored him. He is still under observation and monitoring.

“Ideally, it should been an MRI scan which was however unavailable but a computerized tomography scan (CT scan) of the head detected no negative reports,” the Ghana team doctor said.
