Sunyani, (B/A) April 12, GNA - A Sunyani Magistrate court 'B' presided over by Mr. Albert Zoogah on Wednesday granted 10 million cedis bail each with one surety to be justified to four regular players of Brong-Ahafo United who were alleged to have beating up a colleague over a bribery allegation.
Akwasi Boateng, Ibrahim Adams and Awudu Moro who made their first appearance in court, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime, assault and causing harm, while Alhaji Abass pleaded guilty with explanation.
Mr. Zoogah after listening to arguments from counsel of the accused and the prosecution granted the players bail but advised supporters of the Club to ensure peace, whilst warning that "anybody who attempts any form of revenge will be arrested and prosecuted".
The accused persons are to reappear on May 11 this year. Chief Inspector E. T. Boison, prosecuting, told the Court that on March 30 this year, the Club lost a match against Tema Youth Football club in Cape Coast in the just ended National Middle League. He said after the match there were rumours that the accused persons had collected bribes, resulting in the club's defeat. The prosecutor said the accused persons on hearing of the rumour, suspected their colleague, Alex Odenkey, of being the source and conspired "to teach him sense".
Chief Inspector Boison said the accused went in search of the complainant and located him at New Town, a suburb of Sunyani and subjected him to severe beatings. 12 April 06
