President John Agyekum Kufuor has commended Guinness Ghana Limited for the laudable support the company is offering the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars.
The President was optimistic that the company’s support, would urge the team on to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
President Kufuor as speaking at a ceremony at which a ?165 billion new packaging line for Guinness Ghana Limited was inaugurated at the factory at Kaase in Kumasi. He said, “being a football loving country, it is worth noting that Guinness Ghana is the official sponsor of our national team, the Black Stars, and its support has contributed significantly to their performance over the recent past”.
President Kufuor, himself a former sports administrator, observed that sponsorship in the area of sports is significant in the overall development of the nation. He gave the assurance that the government would continue to support Guinness Ghana to succeed and excel in its operations in Ghana.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who also spoke at the ceremony, said the support Guinness is giving to sports and other areas of national development had made the company a household name in the country. He said this had made the company a good corporate citizen, and consequently wished the company more years of sustained growth.
The Managing Director of Guinness Ghana, Mr Delvin Hainsworth, gave the assurance that the company would continue to support the Black Stars in its forward march to glory.
