Princesses drawn against holders USA for FIFA U-20 World Cup

Accra, April 22, GNA - Ghana's under-20 women's team, the Black Princesses have been drawn against defending champions USA in Group D for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

The Princesses will also face Switzerland and Korea Republic at the group phase of the championship to be staged in Germany from 13 July to 1 August, 2010.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the draw for the fifth edition of the biennial championship was conducted on Thursday in Dresden, Germany.

The Princesses, making their first appearance at the competition will open their campaign against defending champions USA on July 14 in Dresden, play Korea Republic three days later at the same venue before moving to Bochum on July 21 to face Switzerland.

The Ghanaian Ladies beat their counterparts from DR Congo 5-0 on aggregate to qualify for the finals.

Africa's other representatives; the Falconets of Nigeria have been drawn in Group C alongside England, Mexico and Japan.

Former captain of Ghana's Black Queens, Adjoa Bayor was among six players who assisted Tatjana Haenni, FIFA's Head of Women's competitions, in the balloting process. Others were Yuki Nagasato (Japan), Carol Carioca (Brazil) and German trio; Alexandra Krieger, Marie-Louise Bagehorn and Dzsenifer Marozsan.

Below are the groups;

Group A: Germany (hosts), Costa Rica, Colombia and France

Group B: Brazil, Korea DPR, Sweden, New Zealand

Group C: England, Nigeria, Mexico, Japan

Group D: USA, Ghana, Switzerland, Korea Republic
