Queens to tour Europe and America

Accra, Dec 11, GNA - Ghana's Female national team, the Black Queens will tour Europe and America to fine-tune their preparations towards their third World Cup appearance slated for the Republic of China next September.

The team which will represent Africa alongside the Super Falcons of Nigeria will round off the trip in Japan where the focus will be on acclimatizing for the tournament where the Ghanaians hope to go beyond the first round for the first time.


Fred Crenstil, Chairman of the Queens Management Committee told the He said Coach Isaac Paha has already submitted his report to the Committee and has expressed his desire to have the team in camp by Monday, January 15 after the long Christmas and New Year holidays. The Chairman said the team that picked silver at the 2006 African Women Championship (AWC) held in the Delta State, Nigeria in October will be beefed up between now and the tournament in their quest to present a strong squad that will take the world by storm at the summit. He told the GNA Sports that 93we are expecting to have about 30 players in camp to ensure competition through hard work that will further aid us to pick the right materials for the tourney.=94 The Queens, beginning from February will start their Olympic Games campaign in search of a debut appearance.

The team will play a yet-to-be-named opponent to pick one of the 1.5 slots allocated to Africa.


The qualifiers which will take the form of round robin of six teams automatically qualifies the winner whilst the runner up will engage the victor from the Confederation of Central and North American Football (CONCACAF) in a play-off to determine who picks the additional slot.
