Ghana international winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has admitted he was frustrated by his stay in the Russian capital Moscow, which prompted his bid to leave the country.
The 22-year-old was last week signed by English Championship side Cardiff on a six-month loan deal from Spartak Moscow.
Rival Championship side Birmingham refused to extend his loan stay last month from the Russian club which prompted Cardiff to pounce.
Owusu-Abeyie is happy to be given the chance to continue his career in England after a frustrating 18-month stay in Moscow.
“It was a gamble to go to Moscow,†said the Amsterdam-born Ghana international.
“It’s somewhere I never thought I’d be playing football, to be honest. When I was at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger told me they were interested and I thought I’d give it a try.
“It was an adventure for me and I spent a year-and-a-half there, but that was long enough. It wasn’t the best move for me. I didn't like the football and I found the people a bit stuck up.
“So while I’m still young enough, I thought I’d come back to the UK and show what I can do. Coming to Cardiff is a good move for me and I’m happy to be here.â€
Owusu-Abeyie was a member of the renowned Ajax youth academy in his home-town of Amsterdam for nine years and was picked up by Arsenal after he was released from the Dutch giants.
He was highly-rated by Arsenal but failed to break into the first-team on a regular basis and joined Spartak Moscow in January 2006.
Owusu-Abeyie played on loan at Spanish club Celta Vigo before impressing in a temporary spell at Birmingham City and scored against Cardiff while he was on loan at St Andrew’s earlier this season.
