Defender Baba Abdul Rahman says Ghana FA Executive Committee member Fred Pappoe is responsible for the rise in his football career.
The 17-year-old was playing colts football three seasons ago in Tamale where he was spotted by Pappoe and was transported to the capital to commence a tough journey to the top.
And after spending sometime in the lower divisions, Rahman earned his big break by joining Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko where he made an immediate impact and made the left-back position his.
It was therefore no surprise at all that newly promoted Bundesliga outfit Greuther Furth overtook a host of clubs in pursuit to sign the talented player after just one season in the Ghanaian top flight.
Rahman however attributed his quick ascension to professional football to the former Ghana FA Vice President who is not known at least to the public for his great scouting works.
“I was playing colt’s football at the U-14 level where I was spotted by Mr. Fred Pappoe during the time he was the Ghana FA Vice President,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“He brought me to Accra where I was given a good accommodation and I started training with Midtjylland (Mamobi) before I joined Dreams FC in the second Division.
“I wasn’t the best player in Tamale but he (Pappoe) told me I had something unique and that with hard work I will excel.
“I was however set to sign for Anderlecht but because I was under age so then I was taken to Kotoko and the rest they say was history.
“That man (Pappoe) was and is still a pillar of my life and I want to thank him a lot for giving me the chance and also saving my life.”
Rahman is just one of a host of untapped gems scattered across the country to benefit from a hunch of an individual he was good enough to play top flight European football.
