AZ Alkmaar talent Raymond Gyasi is set to turn his back on Netherlands national team in order to represent Ghana.
With the indifferent recent form of the Dutch national team, the dependence on the youth squads is taking on even more importance.
With some players looking jaded and uninterested after a successful World Cup, it could be time to look to the future.
Although the Netherlands have always had quality over quantity when it comes to eligible players, it can only be a disappointment when a bright prospect decides against playing for the Oranje and moves to choose to play for another national squad.
Dutch-born AZ Alkmaar winger, Raymond Gyasi has done this, as he wishes to represent Ghana rather than Holland.
With 11 goals in 40 appearances for Jong AZ, Raymond, the younger brother of Edwin Gyasi who also came through the AZ ranks, stated that it was his “dream” to play his international football for the Black Stars and to represent the country of his parents, as he aims to make the nation proud.
However, the Netherlands is blessed with many exciting young talents in the same position, Gyasi’s decision is certainly in his own best interest.
