Rayo Oklahoma City manager Alen Marcina has showered praise on Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng after joining the club on a one-year deal this week.
Boateng, 32, parted ways with Spanish side Eibar last year and his reported move to Swedish side AIK Solna turned out unsuccessful, thus signing for Rayo amid interest from other clubs.
“It is essential to have experience, presence and leadership in the centre of the park and the singing of Boateng fulfills that need,” Marcina told the club's website.
“With Boateng we have an outstanding person and player with experience on some of the best leagues in the world, which include Spain’s La Liga, the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga as well as representing his country in the World Cup,” he added.
Rayo becomes Boateng's 11th club since leaving Ghana to join Greek outift Kalamata FC in 1999 and he is expected to play his debut game against FC Edmonton on April 2 at the Miller Stadium when the 2016 North American Soccer League season kicks off.
