The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that former African Footballer of the Year Karim Abdul Razak has applied for the vacant Black Stars job.
The Asante Kotoko legend is said to be one of the few indigenous coaches who have applied to be considered as coach of the World Cup quarter-finalists.
Aduana Stars coach Herbert Addo has expressed interest in the job but the Ghana FA is unable to confirm his application.
“I have seen that of Abdul Razak and one other but that is not to say those are the two who have applied, there maybe many others. I don’t think we have gone deep to find out who is in there,” Ghana FA vice president Fred Pappoe told Joy FM
Razak, nicknamed the Golden Boy, has had coaching experience with AS Dragons of Benin and Malian giants Stade Malien.
He guided his former club Asante Kotoko to win the Ghana Premier League in 2003-for the first time in a decade-but was sacked the following season.
Razak won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations with the Black Stars in the same year he was named the continent’s best player.
The 49-year-old was last coaching job was in-charge at local side Real Tamale United where he struggled to make an impact.
