Regional football executive's term extended

Sunyani (B/A) Sept 28 GNA - The Executive body of the Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association's term of office has been extended for another three football seasons.

Forty-eight Second Division football clubs and other constituent bodies affiliated to football in the Region endorsed the extension of the term of office of the executives to be in office up 2007. The executive body, headed by Mr. Num Kofi Dwomoh, a retired Auditor of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Office of the Internal Revenue Service was first elected in 1996 and after serving its four-year-term it received the mandate for another term in 2000.

After the expiration of their term in office, the executive was again given the nod to manage affairs of the Association by the 48 clubs after a general meeting held at Sunyani last week.

The representatives of the clubs and the other constituent bodies pledged their support for the executive body, emphasizing that Chairman Dwomoh and his colleagues had "done a very good work, which calls for an extension of their mandate".

They recalled that until the assumption of office of the current administration, the Region was noted for its bad football organisation that resulted in acts of hooliganism at Second Division football matches.

The meeting also recalled a nasty incident that compelled the national secretariat of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to cancel a full year's league season competition.

They said "the current administrators in the spirit of fair play and transparency have been able to weed out such negative Practices that resulted in the smooth running of the regional championships for the past eight seasons".

Meanwhile, all the 48 clubs have registered to take part in this year's Regional Second Division league scheduled to take off at all the 24 league centres from October 17.

Mr. Kwabena Munufie, Secretary of the Association told the GNA Sports in Sunyani that the clubs had been zoned into six groups to save them from high travelling expenses.

He advised the clubs and match officials to ensure successful a league devoid of hooliganism and crowd violence.
