Accra, July 30, GNA - Registration of players for the 'Striker's Reality Show' has been scheduled for Friday, August 29 to take place across the country.
The exercise which is expected to last for three days will run concurrently at selected venues throughout the country and will see the organizers selecting the best 20 for the second phase of the progamme. The programme, dubbed "Ghana Goal Hunt Contest" is the brainchild of former of Asante Kotoko and Black Star's striker, Ebo Mends and is aimed at addressing the prevailing goal scoring disability of strikers currently bedeviling Ghana football.
Emmanuel Nuworzah, Project Manager of the Project said at the launch of the event that the selected 200 footballers from the ten regions will go through screening and eviction to settle on fifty (50) for the grand prize.
He added that the programme meant for players between the ages of 16 and 23 has been strategically segregated into three phases namely 'Ghana Goal Hunt Reality Contest', 'Operation 5000' and 'Worthy Market'. The Project Manager explained that the first phase deals with the main reality show with the second aimed at mobilizing 5000 footballs for distribution to colts and other lower division clubs. "The emphasis will be on Black Star players donating at least 150 balls meant for distribution to the target groups." Mr Nuworzah outlined that the third phase will deal with the marketing of the players for the big stage. President of the Ghana Goal Hunt Incorporated, Ebo Mends said in an address that the Project is aimed at unearthing potent strikers for the various national teams.
Ebo mends recalled the inability of the strikers of the Black Stars to covert chances during the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations which he noted affected 'our dreams of lifting the trophy', adding that this was therefore a step towards solving the problem of goal scoring. Ernest Nunoo, Head of Retail Banking, Merchant Bank, the major sponsors of the event assured of his outfit's support to the Project which will offer the youth an opportunity to exploit their talents and become role models for the younger generation.
The event, chaired by Lepowura Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula, former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was attended by the cr=E8me dela cr=E8me of the Ghana football family including past footballers and administrators.
The winner of the event will have a two-week trial with a yet to be confirmed Danish club with the runner-up enjoying a similar fate with a local Premier League side.
