Relegation and promotion a must — GFA

A deputy general secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the relegation and promotion exercise for Premier League clubs will take place before next year’s league kicks off.

What remains uncertain to the FA is the modalities to adopt in promoting the division one clubs to the premierships.

Mr K. Ampem Darko told the Graphic that the FA is dreading the problems that will beset it in case of its failure to carry out any relegation or promotion exercise for premier league and division one clubs before the 2003 season gets underway.

Besides, the premier and division one leagues, relegation and promotion exercises affect divisions two and three clubs, and the effect of any decision to quash the exercise will trickle down to these lower divisions as well.

Already faced with the quagmire of a stand -off between them and the management of Mighty Jets, the FA wants to avoid further problems, hence the decision to carry out the relegation and promotion exercises at all cost.

For that reason, the football authorities have begun advance plans that will eventually involve every division one club to streamline modalities that will ensure a smooth league.

The FA is said to be considering several options that will ensure that the division one league ends on time.
