Right to Dream Weekly Roundup

In this week’s Right to Dream Graduate roundup, David Accam named in Swedish league best XI and also nominated for Swedish Player of the Year; Abdul Majeed Waris named in Ghana’s squad for the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier away to Egypt; James C. Nortey scores eight goal of the season and seventh career game-winner for Marquette University and graduate Moro Mohammed selected for the 3rd Annual Boys High School All-American game.

International call-up


We start off with news that graduate Abdul Majeed Waris has received a call-up to the Ghana national team for the crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier away to Egypt on 19th November. Waris scored a goal and helped set up two other when Ghana beat Egypt 6:1 in the first leg of their World Cup Play-off game last month.


The Sparta Moscow striker is on a good run of form for the Black Stars having scored on three consecutive occasions for the national team in their 2014 World Cup qualifiers.


He is the fifth RtD graduate to play for the Ghana national team and the first Academy player to score for the Black Stars.


Sweden:


AIK 2 - 1 Helsingborg

David Accam was named among the best eleven in the just ended Swedish top-flight and got nominated for Swedish Player of the Year after his impressive outing for Helsingborg. Accam ‘s break-through season saw him score 10 goals in the league in 27 club appearances., helping Helsingborg to place an overall 5th on the log.


Meanwhile, Accam and fellow RtD graduate Ema Boateng, played 57 minutes and 28 minutes respectively in Helsingborg’s last league game away defeat at AIK.


Denmark


AGF 2 - 1 Viborg


On-loan Manchester City player Dominic Oduro played 58 minutes as AGF climbed to third place on the league table after their win over Viborg. The 19 year old defender was making his 9th appearance for the Danish club.


All-American honour Graduate Moro Mohammed has been honoured for his stellar performances for the Hotchkiss School soccer team after being selected to be part of the 3rd Annual Boys High School All-American game. The All-American game brings together the best High School players in the United States under two different teams: East coast and West coast. Moro, who is based in Lakeville, Connecticut, is one of 20 players who have been selected to for the East coast Squad for the honoury game in Philadelphia on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Boston College 3:1 Virginia Tech


Atobrah Ampadu played 90 minutes and provided an assist in Boston College’s win over Virginia Tech. Ampadu passed the ball to Lewis from a quickly taken corner kick for the equalizer in the 69th minute. BC went on to win the game with two more goals from Derrick Boateng.


Westmont University 3:1 Vanguard


Graduate Emmanuel Nana Akyen provided a key assist as Westmont University claimed their 10th victory of the year following their victory over Vanguard. Akyen played the crucial ball forward for his teammate, Siemens, who scored to put the game to bed in the 83rd minute.


Marquette 2:1 Seton Hall


James C. Nortey's 80th-minute goal sealed victory for the Marquette University men's soccer team over visiting Seton Hall on Senior Night at Valley Fields. Nortey scored the match winning goal with a beautiful half-bicycle kick, ten minutes to time. This was after his goal was disallowed six minutes earlier because of an offside call. The goal was Nortey’s eight of the season and seventh career game-winner. Marquette have moved into first place in the BIG EAST Conference.

Villanova 0:1 Xavier


Oscar Umar had a good game as Villanova Wildcats went down to Xavier. Umar missed narrowly in the 76th, unleashing a rising shot that seemed destined for the net before it was pushed away by the oppositions goalkeeper. UC Davis 1: 1 UC Santa Barbara Fifi Baiden made his 14th appearance for the University of California, Santa Barabara soccer team in the drawn game with UC Davis. Baiden shot two times at goal in the game. He has started 13 of the games he has played in this year.


All-American selection


Graduate Moro Mohammed has been honoured for his stellar performances for the Hotchkiss School soccer team after being selected to be part of the 3rd Annual Boys High School All-American game.

Godfred Saka played 90 minutes and was given a yellow card as Aduana Stars went down to a surprise 1:0 loss at home to Amidaus Professionals. Samuel Boateng’s Wa All Stars defeated Bechem United by a lone goal in Wa.
