Ruud Gullit Expected In Ghana

Ghana will welcome one of world football?s greatest stars, Ruud Gullit for a five day working visit beginning Monday.

Gullit who currently coaches Dutch side Feyenoord is taking advantage of the international break this week to visit Ghana as part of his ambassadorial work for the United Nations Children?s Fund (UNICEF).

Gullit whose playing career took him to great European destinations as Milan and London (Chelsea) will use his trip to Accra to carry out counseling programs on HIV-AIDS.

He is expected to tour facilities of the Feyenoord Football Academy at Gomoa before emplaning to Tamale to help in UNICEF?s campaign against AIDS.

The 1987 European Footballer of the year will also visit the Northern and Upper East regions for similar peer counseling Programs on HIV-AIDS as well as inspect some water projects undertaken by the UNICEF-Feyenoord partnership in the process.

A member of the most successful Dutch side ever, Gullit helped Holland to the European cup win in 1988 as captain before a successful playing career with AC Milan and Sampdoria in Italy?s Serie A.

Ruud Gullit ended up as a player manager at the cosmopolitan English side Chelsea where he took the chance of becoming a player-manager in 1996 when Glen Hoddle left to manage England.

He became the youngest manager to win the FA Cup a year later.

He was also the first non-British manager to do so before an unsuccessful period in charge of Newcastle brought his career in England to an end.
