Ryan Fraser sent Swansea’s Premier League future into serious jeopardy with the only goal at the Vitality Stadium.
A training ground routine caught the Swans offguard on 37 minutes. Andrew Surman rolled his free-kick across the edge of the box to Fraser, who curled a beautiful right-footed effort past Lukasz Fabianski.
It would’ve been worse if it wasn’t for the Swansea keeper – his fabulous late save ensured Callum Wilson had a woeful day in front of goal.
The best chance for the away side fell to Jordan Ayew in the first half after some intelligent link up play with his brother Andre, but he blasted over from close range.
Carlos Carvalhal’s side will sink into the relegation zone if Southampton get a result at Everton in the late kick off, but their fate remains in their own hands.
They welcome relegation-rivals Saints to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday, in what has now become a season-defining fixture for both sides.
