Ghana’s leading insurance company, SIC Insurance Company Limited and its sister company SIC Life Ghana Limited have presented an amount of 250,000 cedis to the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) as part of their support to Ghana’s participation at this year’s FIFA World Cup tournament dubbed Brazil 2014.
SIC Insurance Company, which operates general insurance donated 150,000 cedis, whilst SIC Life which specialises in life insurance gave 100,000 cedis.
Doris Awo Nkani Managing Director of SIC said the donation was in line with the company’s key corporate social responsibility principles which hinders on sports.
She said her outfit had a long standing relationship with sports in the country and deems it appropriate to support Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup.
“We are looking forward to a successful participation of Ghana at the World Cup and it is our expectation the Black Stars will win the World Cup”, she said.
The Minister of Youth & Sports Hon. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah expressed appreciation to the two companies for supporting the 2014 World Cup campaign.
He said government had the responsibility to provide budgetary support for the Black Stars, but will not be able to provide funds to sponsor supporters, hence the need for corporate support to mobilise fans to the competition.
SIC Insurance and SIC Life’s donation has opened more doors for other companies to contribute towards Brazil 2014.
SIC has in the past supported many sporting activities and employed some few sportsmen. SIC Insurance is the proud sponsor of the annual H.P Nyemitei SWAG Cup match.
