Cape Coast, Nov. 17, GNA - Dunkwa-on-Offin STARKE F/C emerged champions in the finals of the Central Region Division Two Middle League after they beat Gomoa Assin Hi-Kings 1-0 to lift the trophy at Robert Mensah stadium on Sunday. Abreshia United also spanked Kasoa Bagojet 5-0 to clinch the third position.
Eight Division Two Clubs participated in the week-long Tournament. Mr Matthew Doe, Central Regional Chairman of the Football Association, presented the trophy and two footballs to the winning club. He congratulated STARKE FC for their promotion to Division One and asked the playing body to take their training seriously to enable them qualify for the elite division, next soccer season. Mr George Anane Coleman, Chief Executive Officer of STARKE F/C commended the Managing Director of STARKE Lumber Company, Mr Starke for his immense contribution towards the up-liftment of the Club. He said he has the hope that the promotion of the Club to the First Division would encourage other organisations to assist it financially to realize its vision.
After Referee Charles Nyarko signalled the two sides into action, it was STARKE F/C who after holding Hi-Kings to a goalless first half, came back strongly to score the match winner in the 65th minute through their play maker, Prince Arhin. Irate supporters and players of Hi-Kings after the match however attacked referee Nyarko for what they termed was poor and biased officiating but the peace officers on alert to timely intervene to save the situation. Meanwhile management of Hi-Kings has lodged a protest against STARKE F/C for fielding an unqualified player in the match. According to Mr Prince Mensah, Team Manager of Hi-Kings, STARKE F/C fielded Enoch Yaw Boadi who was not properly registered to participate in the match.
