SUGHA affirms support in National President

Accra, May 17, GNA - The Supporters Union of Ghana, (SUGHA) has affirmed confidence in their National President, Sarfo Abrebrese, describing him as a man with a high sense of integrity.

A statement signed by Dr Ken Aryeetey, 2nd Vice President of SUGHA said, there was no indication of Abrebese defrauding two members of the group as reported recently in the media.

According to the statement, contrary to reports that the President is at large, Abrebrese is currently in South Africa at the invitation of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, to mobilise enough support for the continent. The statement also added that Abrebrese is expected to tour other countries before returning to Ghana.

It added that the two members are registered members of the group and all payments made were properly and officially documented with receipts to cover them.

It said, "We deem the recent unfortunate incident as one of the teething problems a young union like ours could face." The statement also acknowledged the Group's indebtedness to certain members due to the orchestrated cancellation of trips, abortive ones and internal funding of expensive projects, but added that attempts are being made to refund such monies to the owners. It assured all members that it will continue with the payments of such monies whilst sweeping reforms are being undertaken to address some of the pitfalls experienced in the past.

The statement indicated that, SUGHA was not formed for personal gains, but to provide a basis for a Pan-African mobilisation of all citizens to offer African teams' massive support at the 2010 World Cup. It however alleged that its existence is been threatened by activities by some detractors that has led to attempts to tarnish the hard reputation of Abrebrese as typified by the recent publications.
