The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has bestowed the position of a Patron on Talal Fattal, Group Chairman of Global Village Media Group in recognition of his contribution to the sporting media.
Free-to-air television channel, Metro TV, one of the arms of the Global Village Media Group, is famed for its commitment to sports broadcasting.
SWAG President Ackah Anthony conferred the honour on Mr. Fattal when a delegation from the Association paid a courtesy call on him last Friday to congratulate Metro TV on their 15th anniversary.
Mr. Anthony said the decision was taken in consultation with the Patrons, as a recognition of the role played by Metro TV in transforming the phase of Sports Journalism in the country.
The SWAG President also used the platform to officially invite Fattal to the 37th Sports Award Night scheduled for June 9 at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.
Oheneba Charles, a Patron of SWAG described the Group Chairman of Global Village Media Group as "a man of many parts" who exhibited so much passion towards sports development in the country.
“We (SWAG) appreciate your role towards the development of sports in the country and the greatest gift from (SWAG) is to appoint you a Patron,” he said.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Fattal expressed extreme shock at the huge honour bestowed on him by the Sports media body, SWAG.
“I accept this in high esteem and cherish it so much,” said Fattal.
Fattal promised to live up to his stewardship and pledged Metro TV’s unflinching support towards sports development in the country.**
