Accra, July 4, GNA - The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has expressed appreciation to Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited for their role in the organization of the recent two-day seminar for sports journalists and broadcasters in the country.

The seminar, which forms part of preparations made by the Association towards the impending All Africa Games in Algiers, Algeria was to equip the participants with the requisite skills and knowledge to report on multiple sporting events such as the All Africa Games. A statement issued from the Secretariat of the Association copied to the GNA Sports on Wednesday said the seminar could not have materialized without the financial backing of the Bank. Over sixty participants made of sports writers, broadcasters and photographers attended the seminar held at the Secretariat of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) under sponsorship of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited.

Eleven sporting disciplines were handled by experts from the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG).

Among the disciplines treated were Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Cycling, Football, Karate-Do, Amateur Boxing, Disabled Sports and Tennis.

The Statement said the support of the Bank is a clear demonstration of their holistic commitment to the development of sports in the country.

It said "The decision of Stanbic Bank to support the programme came as a great relief to the Association at a time many corporate bodies had declined to offer any form of support for the event." It added that, "Stanbic Bank therefore deserves the greatest commendation for supporting such a worthy cause."

The statement said SWAG believes the newly created relationship with Stanbic Bank will be a long lasting one that also signals the beginning of new and concrete things to happen.

It however called on other corporate bodies to emulate Stanbic Bank gesture by contributing towards the development and promotion of sports in the country.
