Satellites drawn against Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea for WAFU tourney

Accra, Nov. 9, GNA - Ghana's Black Satellites have been drawn against Senegal, Gambia and Guinea for this year's edition of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) tournament scheduled for Nigeria from November 28 to December 7.

Information gathered by GNA Sports from the Zonal body's secretariat has it that the draw conducted over the weekend put the Satellites in Group B of the two-week event which will have 14 countries from the sub-region participating.

According to the draw, the Satellites who will be based in Ughelli township in Nigeria's Delta State will begin their campaign against Senegal on November 28, before wrapping up against Guinea and Gambia on November 30 and December 2 respectively.

Hosts Nigeria is paired in Group A alongside Togo, Benin and Guinea Bissau.

Group C consist of Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone and Mauritania whilst Mali, Cape Verde, Niger and Liberia make up Group D.

The first two clubs from each group after the round-robin will progress to the quarterfinals, with the winners advancing to the semi final stage.

The final and third place match comes off on December 7.

The tournament is the first since Nigerian Amos Adamu took over the reigns of the zonal body last April. The WAFU Cup was last played in 2004. 09 Nov. 08
