Ghana defender Jeffery Schlupp will be working under new coach Claudi Ranieri at Leicester City in the coming season.

The 63-year-old Italian has signed a three-year contract to replace Nigel Pearson who was sacked late last month.

Ranieri who is nicknamed the ‘Tinkerman’ for his rotation policy while he was Chelsea manager was immediately flown to join the side’s pre-season tour of Austria to commence work right away.

He will be officially introduced to his players including Ghana defender Jeffery Schlupp once he arrives.

“I’m so glad to be here in a club with such a great tradition as Leicester City,” he said.

‘I have worked at many great clubs, in many top leagues, but since I left Chelsea I have dreamt of another chance to work in the best league in the world again.’

Ranieri has enjoyed a varied career managing some of Europe’s biggest teams, but was most recently sacked by Greece after a home loss to the Faroe Islands.

Prior to that he led cash-rich Monaco out of the French second tier and to runners-up spot in Ligue 1 before being dismissed. Monaco played a friendly against Leicester in 2013.

He is well-known in England for guiding Chelsea to second place in the Premier League and the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Leicester’s Thai owners wanted a big football name to replace sacked Nigel Pearson and director of football John Rudkin has been in London interviewing candidates.

Guus Hiddink and Martin O’Neill are understood to have been approached but declined the opportunity to take over, while Ranieri expressed his interest and availability.
