Leicester City winger Jeffrey Schlupp has rued his side’s chances in their 2-2 stalemate against Burnley but was left thrilled to have scored his first goal of the season.
The Ghanaian international, a product of City’s Academy, opened the scoring for the Foxes against Sean Dyche’s men before Michael Kightly equalised for the visitors.
Riyad Mahrez restored the Leicester lead immediately but an injury time free kick from Ross Wallace denied Nigel Pearson’s men a third win in four league games.
“It feels like a loss after being 2-1 up against Burnley,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think everyone expected us to go and win the game, especially the squad but on a personal point I’m very happy.
“Yesterday before training we had a chat. We went through the team and went through what Burnley were going to be like and it came up.
“We had a little chat about what he [Pearson] wanted me to do. He wanted me to get involved and if the ball was on the other side to get in the box as well – I did that and I got my goal.
“I think my left foot was a bit wayward early on but I’m happy to get it with my right foot.
“First half we felt comfortable. Second half we expected they were going to go ahead with the game.
“We knew that it was going to be scrappy. We sat in a bit more than we would have hoped to and started playing on the counter – definitely disappointed with the end result.”
Despite having chances to extend their lead, City were pegged back in the dying moments and Wallace converted the free kick from the edge of the box. Reflecting on the set play, Schlupp added: “One of the main things he [Pearson] said was to not give cheap free kicks away which we did.
“At half time we were comfortable. We were just looking to get out there and get that third goal to kill the game off.
“We couldn’t and they got the lucky free kick at the end which the player too well to be fair.”
