Screening for Glo Soccer Academy opens on Oct. 8

Screening of prospective participants for the Glo Soccer Academy will begin on October 8, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, organizers have announced.

A statement from Glo Mobile copied to GNA Sports said all applicants in Kumasi and its environs would be screened at the Paa Joe Stadium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology after which screening will proceed in eight other venues across Ghana, Nigeria and the Benin.

It said for the Northern city of Tamale, the screening will be held at the Tamale Sport Stadium between Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13.

The Screening train would subsequently move down south to the capital, Accra on Wednesday October 17 and October 18, for selection of talents for the Academy at the Lizzy Sport Complex in East Legon.

According to the statement, Nigeria will have its turn between Tuesday, October 23 and October 24 first at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, while successful players would be selected from the Enugu Centre on Saturday, October 27 to Sunday, October 28 at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.

The City of Port Harcourt would host the Glo Soccer Academy Screening team from Wednesday, October 31 to November 1, at the Liberation Stadium while Abuja will have their session from Monday, November 5 to November 6, at the Old Parade Ground.

The next centre of attraction would be Lagos at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere from Friday, November 9 to Sunday, November 11. The last batch of screening exercises would hold in two locations in the Benin.

The capital city of Benin, Cotonou would screen potential academy footballers at Stade de Rene Prive on Tuesday, November 13 while the last screening would be conducted in Port Novo on Friday, November 14, at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium.

The statement said the ‘Glo Soccer Academy’ is open to male footballers from the age of 14 to 17 years and 33 players would be picked from these screening exercises to be conducted in the nine venues.

The selected 33 players would be camped at the Glo Soccer Academy in Lagos where they would be trained by celebrity coaches from West Africa and Manchester United Football Club.

After one month of training, 16 finalists would be selected to attend a training tour of the Manchester United Soccer schools and would win scholarships and other mouth-watering prizes.

The Most Valuable Player (the MVP) would in addition win the sum of sixty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC60, 000) while the remaining 15 finalists would pocket twelve thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 12,000) each.

To register in Ghana, prospective candidates for screening are expected to load GHC30 their Glo line and text their name, age, and preferred screening location to 3836.
