Security personnel seize gun and cartridges at Stadium

Kumasi, Jan.13, GNA - Security personnel on duty at the Kumasi Sports Stadium seized a single barrel gun and four live cartridges concealed in the car of a football fan during last Sunday's final leg of the CAF Confederation Cup match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.

Mr Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Ashanti Region who disclosed this to GNA Sports in Kumasi on Wednesday, however did not disclose the name of the suspect and the car number.

He however, said that the suspect mentioned the name of a medical officer attached to the National Sports Council (NSC) in Accra as the owner of the weapon and ammunition.

ACP Ofosu-Gyeabour said during a routine search of vehicles at the gates on Sunday, the security personnel found the weapon and cartridges in the car and arrested the driver who told the security personnel during interrogation that it belonged to the medical officer. He said that the driver and the medical officer are assisting the Police in its investigations.

Meanwhile, four suspected criminals who were arrested at the stadium on Sunday for various offences will soon be put before court. The four who are now in police custody include Kwaku Gyamfi and Dauda Karim who snatched two mobile phones from their owners, Musa Agbenator, 28 who had a dagger on him and Akwasi Acheampong, 29, who was found with a fire cracker on his body.
